Dr Sherwood’s Treatment

Kate Bonner worked alongside Dr Sherwood at his London clinic for three years.

Paul Sherwood trained in Medicine (MBBS) at Cambridge University and the Westminster Hospital. He worked as house surgeon for Westminster Hospital and later at Barts before becoming a Consultant at a number of hospitals. He has developed his own form of physical medicine at his London clinic over the last forty years.

Dr Sherwood has devoted himself to the development and practice of The Sherwood Technique, his pioneering and unique treatment which is best known for the successful treatment of non-specific back pain. The Sherwood technique has also brought breakthrough treatment and relief for many other conditions. His key approach is to look beyond the actual attack of pain to the origin of the problem, maintaining that when a person has intermittent back pain, the underlying cause needs to be treated before real and long lasting progress can be made. Thus, his treatment offers not only immediate relief, but more importantly long-term help for the basic problem. Of his thousands of patients many travel from all over the world for treatment.

Dr Sherwood is widely regarded as the leading authority in all areas concerned with non-specific back pain and, with his extensive knowledge and skills, he is dedicated to easing your pain.

The Sherwood technique is advanced conventional medicine, not an alternative technique. The key way it differs from other conventional techniques is that whereas most doctors specialise in one particular part of the body, Dr Sherwood specialises in a number of diseases and treats all the affected parts of the body with his unique, holistic approach.

Many of the tools used in the Sherwood Technique are similar to those used by other doctors and therapists, but because Dr Sherwood is looking at the body as a whole he is more often able to see the root cause and therefore use these tools more effectively.

The other key philosophy behind the Sherwood Technique is optimising the body's repair and defence mechanism so the treatment is accelerating the body's own repair process. It is also able to promote repair where previously, the body had not been able to start the process on its own. This brings about permanent relief from pain and improvement in general health.

The combination of Dr Sherwood's techniques and movement retraining using Clinical Pilates provides a comprehensive and dedicated approach to injury and pain rehabilitation. I am very excited to be bringing these new techniques back to New Zealand and specifically to the community of Christchurch.
